I have been having this problem for last couple of days now and I have finally figured out that an update was done KB946983, uninstalling this resolves the problem.

How do I uninstall KSB946983? When I switch between contacts and email, the contact info continues to display in the reading pane, or it’s totally blank. The only way to clear it is to reboot.
